Cemetery Caretaker Supervisor

This position will serve as the first line supervisor to several wage grade employees, with decision authority over all field employees performing all activities related to the core mission of the cemetery, to include interments, grounds maintenance, marker activities as well as preventative equipment maintenance and repairs on all vehicles, equipment, buildings, facilities, septic systems, roads and curbing and drainage systems. Duties include but are not limited to:
Plan daily, weekly, or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates. Establishes deadlines and priorities, based on general work schedules, methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision. Determines how many assignments can be done concurrently and which must be delayed. Reviews the progress of all work being accomplished to ensure that the quality of workmanship and timely completion of work is achieved. Orders tools, materials, supplies necessary to perform the work. Trains subordinates in the accomplishment of various tasks; Establishes training programs. Counsels employees, adjudicates informal complaints and grievances through discussion with employees and union representatives and initiates disciplinary actions as needed. Ensures that rules and regulations on safety, conduct and good housekeeping are observed. Work schedule:
May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Your background must demonstrate work involved in leadership and/or supervision and interment activities, including layout and excavation of new grave sites, and reopening occupied grave sites which require extreme caution to avoid damage to previously interred containers.
Experience:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Position requires continual standing and walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing and bending. Requires frequent lifting or moving of objects up to, and occasionally over 100 pounds. Moderate to heavy physical effort is needed. Must possess a valid state driver's license. Working Conditions:
Work is performed in all types of weather. Position requires continual standing and walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing and bending. Work requires exposure to various weather conditions (e.g., sun, wind, rain, fog, dampness). Incumbent will be exposed to dust, dirt, mud and water. Incumbent may be exposed to noise levels which exceeds 85dBA and may affect hearing. Workload is known to induce stress or stressful conditions.
